The embedded Mini-ITX KTQ87/mITX motherboard manufactured by Kontron is based on 4th generation Intel® Core™ i7, i5, i3 processors and the Intel® embedded Q87 chipset. Graphics performance of this motherboard is higher by 35 per cent compared to its predecessors; it has higher floating-point performance and improved data encryption and decryption functionalities while TDP remains virtually unchanged. The Mini-ITX form factor allows developers to directly start with system designs and leverage the use of the ATX-compatible ecosystem. But there is more: Kontron embedded motherboards are equipped with POSCAP capacitors (tantalum electrolytic capacitor with solid polymer electrolyte), which makes them highly reliable and available in the field, even in the roughest conditions.
The Kontron embedded Mini-ITX KTQ87/mITX motherboard is based on the Intel® Q87 Express chip set and supports up to 16 gigabytes DDR3 RAM. It can be equipped with either a dual core or quad core Intel® Core™ i3, i5, i7 processor of the 4th generation with up to 3.1 GHz (3.9 GHz for turbo boost). Application extension can be achieved through both 3rd generation PCI Express and mini PCI slot. Other peripheral devices can be connected via four superspeed USB (USB 3.0) and ten USB 2.0 ports as well as the embedded feature connector proprietary to Kontron. The feature connector offers up to 160 GPIO. In addition, it offers analogue-digital as well as digital-analogue converter (ADDAC), minimizing design-in workloads for the implementation of individual I/O functionalities.
The feature connector can be equipped with the Kontron KT evaluation breakout board, which simplifies and accelerates system design. Granting easy access via the feature connector, the extension board provides direct access to features like system monitoring, opening recognition or thermal system management. The embedded motherboard supports up to three different high-resolution displays or one 4k display respectively, connecting them via DisplayPort++. DisplayPort 1.2 panels or HDMI/DVI monitors can be directly connected via adapter cable. On top, the board has hardware acceleration for dynamic video quality enhancement and provides stereoscopic 3C, enabling a new sphere of applications in the fields of digital signage, gaming and entertainment. Two GbE interfaces – one with Intel® AMT 9.0 – allow for extended network options and out-of-band management, minimizing the demand for maintance work on-site. A comprehensive selection of storage media can be connected via six SATA interfaces with 1.5/ 3/ 6 Gbit/s and RAID 0/ 1/ 5/ 10 functionality as well as one mSATA socket for on-board SSD. HD Audio, two COM interfaces and one trusted platform module 1.2 for safety-critical applications complete this feature set of the new motherboard.
The board supports the following operating systems: Windows 7 and 8, Windows Embedded Standard 7, VxWorks, and various Linux distributions (incl. Red Hat Enterprise, Novell SuSE Linux Enterprise, Red Flag Linux and Wind River Linux).
