Satellite head station

Satellite head station

Hardware for management & configuration

Multiple hardware and software components are required to transfer data streams into cable networks via satellite. Satellite head stations make sure that streams received via satellite are converted into digital TV and radio programs. Customer-specific hardware from iesy guarantees that each and every system can easily be managed, configured and serviced.

A very prominent feature of broadband cable networks are head-end stations which are used to receive all signals transmitted via satellite and to route them into radio or TV programs. Such head-end stations usually supply entire cities and regions with a range of programs via cable. A unique sending and receiving unit is required for every program that is routed. Intermodulation must be avoided in order to eliminate interferences in the network.

This is where the slot module comes into play that iesy developed on behalf of a customer. It is used to efficiently manage the various system components for sending, receiving, amplifying, dampening or distributing data streams. At the core of this application we have a powerful yet power-saving computing unit based on COM Express modules with passive cooling. This solution has been used by our customer in their satellite head stations for many years and it has even been developed further. iesy’s life cycle management was able to provide valuable insight with data collected across the entire product life cycle and condensed so that it could be used for the further development of the product. For the latest device generation, we selected an even more efficient COM Express module featuring Intel Atom© processors with minimum power consumption: It provides sufficient resources, yet it consumes less energy and produces less waste heat.
